Launch of the AiiA festival artist residency

The AiiA festival artist residency begins on September 20, 2021.
The festival will take place from October 15 to 31, 2021 at the Théâtre Saint-Gervais.

From September 20 to October 13, 2021, four artists, a hybrid artist, and an artificial intelligence are in residence at Théâtre Saint-Gervais looking for ways to work together. They will explore, comment on and divert these collaborations as they see fit. Their plastic, sonic, performative and unpredictable works will be exhibited and performed during the festival. Time-lapse footage of the residency will be broadcast during AiiA.

Witnessing the arrival of artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool for artistic expression, the festival's organizers are motivated by a desire to understand the impact it will have on future societies, to imagine possible futures and to map out the paths they might take. It is therefore more a scientific-social art festival than a technological one, where the aim is to enrich ethical and social debate while broadening points of view. This technological innovation, like photography or video in their time, will lead to new reflections as much on art and society as on technology itself. AiiA is part of this movement.

Artists in residence: Brice Catherin, performer and composer - Cléa Chopard, author of text, sound pieces and videos - Joël Maillard, actor, director and author - Maria Sappho, improviser, pianist and researcher - Mariabrice Sapphocatherin, improvision pianicelliste.

AiiA festival in brief: The heart of the project is a large-scale laboratory for research and philosophical questioning around AI, with conferences, an exhibition, an artist residency and workshops for children (and playful adults). AiiA is run by the impactIA foundation and supported by the Théâtre Saint-Gervais, the Canton and City of Geneva, as well as partners such as alp ict, Wisekey, SIG, Ezi and the Fête du théâtre.
