Geneva aims for excellence at its 2nd Blockchain Congress

by Alp ICT

The Geneva Blockchain Congress, held on January 20, 2020, is the largest event dedicated to distributed ledger technology (DLT) in Switzerland. It brings together around 1,000 participants from some 30 countries and features world-renowned speakers.

After the success of the first edition in 2019, the second edition of the Geneva Blockchain Congress was placed under the theme "from the laboratory to the market: ethical, regulatory and governance issues". Ethical, regulatory and governance issues need to be carefully considered and developed as TRD-based applications spread across an increasing number of fields.

The aim of the congress is to foster a constructive exchange of views between international standards bodies, the governments that create the legal frameworks, and the private sector. Some 100 speakers addressed a wide range of issues in presentations, round tables, topical debates and workshops on the following themes:

  • Public administration
  • Technological evolution
  • Banking and finance
  • Regulations and legal framework
  • Illicit trade and counterfeiting
  • Health and well-being
  • Procurement and logistics
  • Social and humanitarian.

At the event, the State of Geneva, through its "Direction générale du développement économique, de la recherche et de l'innovation" (DGDERI) announced its participation in the "Geneva Blockchain Center of Excellence" co-founded in December 2018 by WISeKey and the Blockchain Research Institute" a division of The Tapscott Group Inc. Geneva's participation in the Blockchain Center of Excellence will facilitate collaboration between the region's public, private and academic sectors to ensure that TRD standards and applications are used securely and reliably.

Alp ICT was on hand to interview several speakers at the event. Short "Take-Aways" videos will be available on our Vimeo channel.
