How Digital Technology Is Transforming Energy Infrastructure

With the rise of renewable energy, power grids must become smarter to accommodate more decentralized and variable generation. Event Smart Energy 2026 will therefore explore the growing role of digital technologies in managing energy infrastructure: artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, storage, grid monitoring, and flexibility management will be at the heart of the discussions. The goal is to demonstrate how these innovations can improve grid stability while accelerating the energy transition.

Highlights of the program include, among others:

  • The Energy Transition in Full Swing: From Major Advances to Minor Challenges, from Switzerland to China, with Christophe Ballif, professor at EPFL Neuchâtel and director of the Laboratory of Photovoltaics and Thin-Film Electronics
  • The Future of Energy and AI: Why It Matters and How to Succeed, with Katrin J. Yuan, CEO of the Swiss Future Institute.
  • "Interconnected… and Therefore Vulnerable" will explore the new cyber risks facing energy infrastructure with Marc Sommer, Market Director for Energy at Softcom.
  • "What Solutions Are Available for Smart Battery Storage Management?" will showcase innovations that optimize the management of storage systems, featuring Franziska Megert, Head of System Services (SDL) and Optimization at EnAlpin, and Karl Werlen, CEO of Misurio
