ECCB 2026: #GenevaLovesData

August 31, 2026 - August 31, 2026
CICG - Geneva

On August 31, 2026, Geneva will host the first edition of #GenevaLovesData, a new initiative launched on the sidelines of the European Conference on Computational Biology (ECCB 2026). While the ECCB has been bringing together the international bioinformatics and computational biology community for over 20 years, this new event will, for the first time, open up part of this dynamic to the general public, businesses, and decision-makers. Held in Geneva, the forum aims to make issues related to data, artificial intelligence, and the life sciences accessible, while fostering dialogue among researchers, entrepreneurs, institutions, and citizens.

When Data Transforms Healthcare, Research, and Innovation

Featuring presentations and a roundtable discussion, among other activities, the event will highlight the growing role of data in addressing major societal challenges, whether in the fields of health, artificial intelligence, personalized medicine, biomedical research, or data governance. Designed to serve as a bridge between academic research and practical applications, the event will illustrate how scientific advances can translate into innovations that benefit organizations and society.

It is therefore with this goal in mind that the following topics will be explored in greater depth:

  • Data Science for the Common Good: Promises and Limitations with Prof. Olivier Michielin, Head of the Precision Oncology Department at the HUG & SIB Group Leader; Valérie Barbié, Director of the Clinical Bioinformatics Group at the SIB; Prof. Pascal Peduzzi, Director of GRID-Geneva; UNEP and Professor at the University of Geneva; and Prof. Samia Hurst-Majno, Director of IEH2 within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Geneva
  • Responsible AI, Data Sovereignty, and Global Competition, featuring Yves Flückiger, President of the Swiss Academies of Sciences; Delphine Bachmann, State Councilor; Prof. Antoine Geissbühler, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Geneva and Director at the HUG; and Laetitia Philippe, Deputy Director and Head of the National Research and Innovation Division at SERI
