Quambio, an application that rewards reductions in CO2 emissions
Manuel Lonfat founded Quambio in 2019 with the vision of directly involving people in climate change solutions
Quambio is essentially a marketplace for sustainable behavior. They have created an app that allows people to track their mobility activity with the aim of minimizing their energy impact.
It turns out that 2/3 of Co2 emissions are linked to our personal choices. According to Manuel Lonfat, "if we want to solve the climate crisis, we have to react on an individual level".
We're used to seeing individuals pay climate-related taxes, but they don't know how much and when they emit the most Co2. The application recognizes modes of travel and makes statistics accordingly, allowing us to realize our impact by comparing results with other means.
Quambio highlights personal actions and rewards users, thanks to a cash-back system. The amount paid out to users is proportional to their Co2 reduction.
According to Manuel Lonfat, there's a huge marketpotential, as there are over 1 billion cars in the world, where the price of fuel has a certain cost. Car-related emissions account for around 10% of total emissions. With 300,000 cars in Europe, there's already plenty of scope for action.
The app must be used for sustainable purposes, which is why Quambio is already working with cities to review their means of transport. "We work with residents as well as local businesses to promote a circular economy."
