Industry 4.0 at the heart of Fribourg's annual business magazine
The 2022 edition of the annual "Fribourg Network Freiburg" business magazine has just been launched on the theme of Industry 4.0, accompanied by a new website. Through practical and innovative examples, the magazine explores the already pervasive impact and still enormous potential of this fourth industrial revolution.
Setting course for the digital transformation of the Fribourg economy!
A mere concept in the early 2010s, Industry 4.0 is now a concrete reality for many companies in the canton of Fribourg, which has made it one of the key components of its economic development strategy. Through practical and innovative examples, the 2022 edition of Fribourg Network Freiburg, the official magazine of the Fribourg Economic Development Agency, explores the already pervasive impact and still enormous potential of this fourth industrial revolution. Accompanied by a new website, the magazine was unveiled at an event held at the Le Vivier technology park in Villaz-St-Pierre.
A notion sometimes misunderstood by the general public, Industry 4.0 is characterized by the digitization of processes, exchanges and products. Driven by cutting-edge technologies such as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, Big Data and 3D printing, it is revolutionizing the way companies operate, giving rise to intelligent factories in which communication between the various tools and workstations on the production line is continuous and instantaneous.
"In fields as varied as aeronautics, metal construction and building chemistry, some of Fribourg's industrial flagships are already embracing the digital transition, using proprietary solutions from local companies that play a leading role in the Internet of Things and the semiconductor industry," enthuses Olivier Curty, Director of the Economy, Employment and Vocational Training Department of the Canton of Fribourg.
Industry 4.0's cross-cutting, multi-sectoral nature means that it is far from being limited to activities in the secondary sector. According to Jerry Krattiger, Director of the Fribourg Economic Development Agency (PromFR): " While certain tertiary sector professions represent essential technological support for the changes underway, Industry 4.0 also offers excellent opportunities for development and innovation in the various fields of the bioeconomy. These two strategic areas for the canton of Fribourg complement and enhance each other.
