Geofab of Greater Geneva: Awards ceremony for the winners of the 1st call for projects and launch of the 2nd call for projects
On Thursday, September 14, Etienne Blanc, 1st Vice President of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, Jean Denais, President of the Pôle métropolitain du Genevois français, Pierre Mirlesse, Vice President Hewlett Packard Enteprise-Digital Strategist and Philippe Matthey, Secretary General of the DETA Canton of Geneva, launched the second Géofab call for projects dedicated to the valorization of geodata in the field of ecological transition and sustainable development. They also announced the 5 winning projects from the 1st call for projects.
How does Géofab work?
Facilitate the use of this "geodata" by selecting and supporting innovative Franco-Swiss digital projects through 4 calls for projects over 2 years.
Launched last April by the University of Geneva (UNIGE), the Canton of Geneva, the Pôle Métropolitain du Genevois Français and the Institut Géographique National (IGN), along with a number of technical and institutional partners, Géofab supports the winning entrepreneurs in their efforts to use geodata and develop their services. Depending on the quality and assessment of the applications submitted, the winners of the competition will receive free access to Franco-Swiss digital geographic data for 2 years, as well as days of expertise.
Géofab, a Franco-Swiss Interreg project, aims to promote access to digital geographic data for businesses in the Greater Geneva area, and to develop the digital market on a cross-border scale.
A wide range of data collected
A large amount of digital spatial, cadastral and geographic data for the Greater Geneva area, accessible via opendata, has been collected and structured with scientific rigor by the Système d'Information du Territoire à Genève (SITG), Swisstopo, the Association pour le Système d'Information du Territoire Vaudois (ASIT VD) on the Swiss side, and the Institut National de l'Information Géographique et Forestière (IGN) on the French side.
Winners of the 1st call for projects
On April 4, Greater Geneva officially launched Géofab and its 1st call for innovative projects at the University of Geneva.
For this 1st call for projects, applications could cover the fields of leisure, agriculture, mobility, tourism, urban planning, health and more. The Geofab of Greater Geneva can be of interest to a wide range of sectors, from the development of connected objects for running to air quality measurement devices and mobility services.
Candidate entrepreneurs, SMEs, VSEs, start-ups and project leaders of all sizes were invited to submit their applications by June 4. The Géofab administration and jury were responsible for evaluating the various applications. From nearly 70 applications received, the Géofab jury selected 9 project leaders, 5 of whom were auditioned on August 24:
