Les Rencontres Hivernales du Libre

january 27, 2023 - january 29, 2023
Saint-Cergue
The event is over

After a 2-year absence, the Rencontres Hivernales du Libre is back!

As usual, the last weekend in January in St-Cergue will be the time for specialists and interested parties to discuss digital ethics and the challenges of the cyberworld. From copyright to data protection, from Artificial Intelligence to the associations and projects that make up digital ethics, and a round table on migration to Mastodon. A program rich in free software, IT issues and cybersecurity.

This year's event will feature 2 presentations by the Digital Law Competence Centre on licensing and its use in the digital environment, for both data and software. Finally, the new Data Protection Act will also be in the spotlight, with a conference on informed consent.

You'll also be able to discover theTournesol application, a real alternative to YouTube recommendations, but above all an ethical artificial intelligence with a public focus. Straight out of UNIL, this AI has been developed by Lê Nguyên Hoang, better known under the pseudonym Science4all.

NYM is a new Swiss company dedicated to protecting privacy on the Internet in innovative and effective ways. It will be presenting its mixnet, a technical development that not only protects online data, but also the associated metadata. The project is supported by a number of ethical tech personalities, including Harry Halpin, Alexis Roussel and Chelsea Manning.

Finally, a round-table discussion will look at the migration from Twitter to Mastodon, and how the French-speaking association FairSocialNet managed to go from a few hundred users to tens of thousands in just a few hours. We'll look at the technical side of things, but above all the human side, when volunteers find themselves overwhelmed by account requests and moderation requests.

For Android users, there will be a workshop on how to install Android alternatives on smartphones to secure them or give them a new lease of life. The RHL will also be an opportunity to hunt for bugs with an ongoing workshop: the Debian Bug Squashing Party. Last but not least, a host of mini-conferences will present local associations and projects aimed at improving digital thinking for me, for you, for everyone.
