AiiA festival
Experiments in art and artificial intelligence
For its second edition, the festival experiments with inter-species creation
The AiiA festival transforms the 9 floors of the Théâtre Saint Gervais into an experimental art laboratory: six artists-in-residence, two engineers, multidisciplinary thinkers and Chimère, the festival's artificial intelligence (AI), collaborate on works, performances and conferences to explore the impact of AI on our society.
After a first edition in 2021 attended by 7,000 people, the second edition breaks out of anthropocentric viewpoints by exploring inter-species interactions: how can humans, AI, micro-organisms and plants co-create art and invent new forms of society? A time for sharing and dialogue.
-50% off tickets for the "Artificial Intelligence and the Creative Industries" workshop on October 14
As a partner of the festival, Alp ICT is supporting the workshop dedicated to the creative industries, where you can discover and experiment with the latest developments and technologies in AI: Dall-e, Stable diffusion, Jarvis, Meta AI... Images generated by text in a matter of seconds, messages on social media and even videos... APIs and open source are bringing the creative industries face to face with artificial intelligence (AI).
The appropriation of AI in the creative industries and culture boosts the creative potential of artists and companies in the field tenfold, provided they have a good acculturation and understanding of the ins and outs.
This workshop, open to all, will take place on Friday October 14, from 9.30am to 4.30pm, and we're offering 50% off your admission ticket with the code ALPICT.
AiiA festival in brief (pronounced "Aiyah")
The heart of the project is a large-scale laboratory for research and philosophical questioning around AI, with conferences, an exhibition, performances, an artist residency and workshops for young people.
The festival is a co-production between the impactIA foundation and artist Jonathan O'Hear, notably co-creator of Dai, an artist(?) in the making, endowed with artificial intelligence.
A creative residency
The residency starts ahead of the festival, so that artists, thinkers and scientists can find their own ways of working together with Chimère and other non-human entities. This residency group explores inter-species artistic creation by breaking out of anthropocentric viewpoints. A time for reflection and co-construction leading up to the festival.
Chimera
Developed in open source for the first edition of the festival, Chimère is a multimodal artificial intelligence. It uses text, images and sound to interact with others. She is the AI entity at the heart of the AiiA festival. Over the years, she learns and enriches her culture through collaborations and discussions with audiences and artists alike.
Exhibition (October 14-23)
Conceived as a cross-species collaboration, it will feature art created by plants, fungi, robots, AIs and humans.
Conferences (October 14-16)
During the first three days of the festival, artists and thinkers from all disciplines examine the impact of AI on society in the form of lectures and hybrid presentations/performances.
Performances (October 14-23)
Throughout the festival, there will be performances created during the artists' residency, where body and voice can be of all shapes and forms.
AI Town: activities for young people
As they explore this village like no other, participants tackle the ethical issues, challenges and possibilities of artificial intelligence. What's more, children aged 5 to 9 can immerse themselves in AI with Digital Kidz , while their parents follow the festival's other activities.
