Innovations & challenges of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare
Generative AI, which has become popular thanks to tools such as ChatGPT, is now at the heart of several innovations in the healthcare world. Speakers highlighted its potential in creating tailored nutrition programs, monitoring post-stroke patients, and improving doctor-patient interactions. However, they also expressed concerns about the reliability of AI models and the importance of placing the patient at the center of care.
The event also highlighted concrete AI applications, such as NutriBot, a chatbot dedicated to nutrition, and Health.me Technologies, a mobile app for transcribing and summarizing medical consultations.
The final panel discussed the polarization of opinions around AI, with views ranging from unbridled enthusiasm to dramatic distrust. Speakers stressed the importance of AI education and awareness, particularly among young people.
AI x Life science: expert opinion
- Christian Lovis, Chief Medical Officer at HUG, opened the conference by emphasizing the careful and considered use of AI. He stressed the need to make sense of data, preferring text-based information to pre-formatted forms.
- Andrei Kucharavy, co-founder of the Gen Learning Lab, recalled the technical features of Large Language Models (LLMs) in generative AI. Although LLMs are indispensable, especially in today's digital environment, they are open to error and interpretation.
- Blaise Jacholkowski, from Zühlke, highlighted the usefulness of AI in freeing up nursing staff's time to focus on more complex tasks. According to him, AI could help anticipate certain diseases by detecting "weak signals".
