Almer Technologies reaches production milestone
200 augmented reality headsets delivered to pilot customers: companies such as Gilgen Logistics, United Grinding Group and Helbling are currently testing the complete solution for remote maintenance and customer service in the technical industry.
Bern-based start-up Almer Technologies is testing its augmented reality headset with pilot customers. To this end, the complete Almer Arc solution has been produced 200 times to date and is available as a pilot package for customers. Further pilot projects are planned for January 2023.
AR headsets combine hardware with their own software, and are set to offer companies a new type of communication in remote maintenance and customer service. Employees can wear the headset with integrated camera throughout the day, while experts can display specialist knowledge to them in the event of a problem and mark objects in their field of vision.
Companies such as Gilgen Logistics, United Grinding Group and Helbling are currently testing the solution.
The Almer project was launched by students and researchers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ) and Tsinghua University in Beijing with the question "What does it take to make augmented reality (AR) useful?" and was financially supported by the Swiss innovation promotion agency Innosuisse. After a year of prototype research in Shenzhen, China, Almer was established as a company in January 2021.
"To mass-produce a product after such a short development period is a great step on our way to a long-term revolution in industry communication," said Sebastian Beetschen, CEO of Almer Technologies, quoted in the press release.
Almer is the first company to offer hardware and software as a service (SaaS). In future, Almer Arc will be available on a subscription basis.
