Technology, sustainability and digital transformation: CleanTech Switzerland
It's possible to innovate and develop new technologies while preserving natural resources. Cleantech, the so-called "clean" industrial technologies and services that use energy and raw materials to improve production efficiency, finds a synthesis in the Swiss start-up ecosystem. find a synthesis in the Swiss start-up ecosystem.. According to the Swiss Cleantech Report 2017innovative Swiss start-ups are ready to take the next step in developing "green" products and services. Today, this sector accounts for 5.5% of the Swiss workforce, an increase of an increase of 25% over the last five years. The rapid growth of the cleantech market is making headlines at home and abroad!
With 4000 patents per million inhabitantsSwitzerland is at the top of the podium for the creation of green technology companies. From the record figure of 909 million Swiss francs raised in 2016 by innovative Swiss start-ups, nearly 700 million were split between biotech (400 million) and ICT (270 million) players.. Among the beneficiaries of these investments were cleantech start-ups in French-speaking Switzerland. CleantechAlpsa leading player in the support of cleantech SMEs in Western Switzerland, welcomes the growing importance of "clean" technologies in the French-speaking region. Such is the case of Greenmotion SA, a Vaud-based company offering a low-cost (around CHF 700) charging station for electric vehicles. The start-up has set itself the target of selling automakers 1,600 units by 2020.
A few cleantech stars are evolving within Geneva's FONGIT incubator. Winner of the International Award for Best Engineer in 2016, the CEO of Plair SA illustrated the instruments that the University of Geneva spin-off uses to precisely measure a number of environmental factors in real timesuch as allergens, pollens and air pollutants. A key player in the transformation of the renewable energies market, TVP Solar Sa innovates in the design and manufacture of photovoltaic panels. Durable and maintenance-free, these panels provide heating and air conditioning for industrial plants, as well as hot water for private homes. Positioned in the air purifier market, Italian start-up The Breath offers a 100% "green" technology capable of absorbing and breaking down pollutant molecules and odors both inside and outside the home, through a technology based on the simple movement of air and without the need for electricity.
For the more ecologically-minded, there are more and more companies changing the waste recycling sector. Office litter garbage cans, drop-off bins, sorting tables, specific collectors, etc. the French company Greenoffice offers restaurant owners, school canteens and professionals a fun and effective way of sorting bio-waste at source. The aim is to significantly reduce waste. The same principle is applied to water management by Swiss start-up Exlterra which, thanks to the high performance of EGRPtechnology, could "disrupt" the agricultural irrigation market. In the same scenario, Twenty Green targets students and farm animals: the probiotic-based feed developed by the EPFL team promises, among other things, to reduce the volume of feed needed by livestock by over 15%, cut food losses due to parasites by 25%, and cut costs caused by disease and pollution.
Cleantech is one of the most promising markets for 2017 and beyond. Included by the Confederation in the priorities of the Energy Strategy 2050the Cleantech Masterplan aims to foster exchanges between political, social and economic circles in order to reduce the country's energy consumption, expand the supply of electricity, extend power grids and encourage the development of flagship energy-saving projects. Against this backdrop, a wide range of opportunities are opening up for economic players offering solutions in line with the principles of Energy Strategy 2050. Investing today, in human and financial resources, to imagine and build tomorrow's solutions is therefore more necessary than ever!
