The University of Berne and the Inselspital create the CAIM "Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine".
TheUniversity of Berne and theInselspital are founding a Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, combining cutting-edge research, engineering, digitization and artificial intelligence to develop new medical technologies.
An artificial intelligence platform to meet a growing need
Currently, healthcare systems generate more digital data than healthcare professionals can analyze. However, thanks to clinical tools based on artificial intelligence (AI), key characteristics can be quickly identified from a vast amount of data, helping doctors, nurses and other medical staff to make more accurate diagnoses and better care decisions.
In response to the growing need for AI-based clinical tools, and to give the Canton of Berne's medical cluster a head start on the future of digital medicine, the University of Berne and the Inselspital are creating the Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (CAIM). The CAIM is a new platform in the field of artificial intelligence in medicine that will stimulate AI-focused research, teaching and translational research.
The center will be inaugurated in January 2021 as a structure of the Medical Faculty of the University of Bern and the Inselspital, Bern's university hospital, with the University Psychiatry Service and the Swiss Institute for Translational and Entrepreneurial Medicine, sitem-insel, as partners.
A new standard-bearer for medical excellence in the Canton of Berne
The CAIM will strengthen precision medicine skills in Berne, which is already at the forefront with the Bern Center for Precision Medicine.
Christoph Ammann, member of the Board of Directors and Director of Economic Affairs, Energy and the Environment for the Canton of Berne, comments: "Berne's medical cluster is based on a renowned university and a highly innovative teaching hospital. Berne is now a leader in the field of artificial intelligence. This will strengthen the Canton of Berne as a business location and generate even more added value.
