At the start of 2018, Switzerland is proving to be proactive and willing, committing itself to carrying cyber security high. Our watchdog and expert Marc Barbezat shares the key facts. 

Switzerland announces global cybersecurity initiative

At the 12th Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Geneva, Switzerland announced in particular that it would be launching a global initiative to clarify the role of governments, the private sector and individuals for a peaceful and secure Internet. Total cybersecurity requires the cooperation of all those involved", said Deputy State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Krystyna Marty Lang.

EPFL creates a center for "digital trust" with private partners

EPFL announces the creation of a cybersecurity cluster, C4DT for Center for Digital Trust. In addition to joining forces with a number of major Swiss companies, the university is also opening new teaching and research chairs, with the aim of developing solutions in the fields of cybersecurity and data protection. This C4DT is built on 3 pillars: (1) cyber-security, (2) data protection and sharing, and (3) blockchains and smart contracts.

Also in Switzerland, companies reminded us that cyber-threats are real. 

Groupe Mutuel 's insurance company suffered an attack and data theft, whilean EMS announced that it had paid a ransom to recover its files. The Swiss subsidiary of EOS, a collection company used by doctors, also fell victim to hackers and lost confidential data.
