Responsible digital business: where does Switzerland stand?
1st Swiss Institute for Sustainable IT (ISIT-CH) report on Responsible Digital Enterprise
The benefits of digitization are clear: it makes our daily lives easier, makes businesses more agile, increases their sales radius, optimizes agricultural harvests, improves the accuracy of medical diagnoses and gives more people access to information. Yet almost all habits are based on digitization, giving it unprecedented power. It is essential that digitization is properly designed, manufactured, used and managed.
In 2020, digitization accounted for 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions and 5 to 10% of global electricity consumption. In the coming years, the share of electricity consumed by digitization is expected to continue to grow exponentially.
In the light of all this information, it is pertinent to ask whether digital technology will be environmentally, socially and economically sustainable in the years to come? How can a responsible digital approach guarantee a digital transformation that is sustainable for the planet and beneficial for everyone?
With this report, ISIT-CH presents the situation of digital responsibility in Switzerland, and more specifically in the Swiss industrial fabric. The report can be downloaded from the ISIT-CH website.

About ISIT-CH :
The Swiss Institute for Sustainable IT (ISIT-CH) is a non-profit association founded in 2020 in partnership with France's INR and Belgium's ISIT.
It is a forum for reflection, experimentation and the promotion of best practices on the three key challenges of responsible digital business:
- Green IT : reducing the economic, social and environmental footprint of digital technology;
- IT for Green : the ability of digital technology to reduce humanity's economic, social and environmental footprint;
- Human IT : a commitment to digital e-inclusion for all.
In the interest of all, ISIT is developing close interdisciplinary cooperation between civil society, the social economy, teachers, researchers, and public, private and non-profit players, to anticipate and embrace the challenges and values of a responsible digital future.
Its actions are always guided by the 3Ps: People, Planet, Profit, which remind us that organizations need to think not only in terms of economic viability, but also in terms of social issues and the urgency of climate change.
The association offers a wide range of tools, guides, resources, guidelines and training courses, as well as a charter and a Responsible Digital label.
