Impact of COVID-19 on teleworking
The Institut de Digitalisation des Organisations (IDO) of the Haute école de gestion Arc conducted a study on the impact of COVID-19 on teleworking in French-speaking Switzerland. As accessibility to teleworking is often still limited within companies, the aim was to see whether COVID-19 and the resulting semi-confinement had an impact on the opinion of employees in French-speaking Switzerland and their ability to telework.
It turns out that, almost overnight, employers have been forced to implement telecommuting for their employees, even though it may not have been one of the company's priorities. What's more, employees have had to adapt to the situation and, whether or not they were reluctant to work in this way, have experimented with telecommuting.
At the beginning of 2021, uncertainty remains as to the evolution of the pandemic and the drastic measures that may once again have to be taken, such as containment. Such a situation could have major and unknown consequences for companies, as could the emergence of new pandemics or similar crises in the future. It is currently unclear to what extent employees could actually telework.
The study takes stock of this situation and assesses the extent to which activities could continue to be teleworked, and whether any trends can be outlined. To do so, it focuses on three research questions: the ability to telework, teleworkingefficiency and motivation to telework.
