Call for the Cyber Startup Challenge 2020: apply by September 30

by Alp ICT

Campus Cyberdéfense is on the lookout for innovative technologies, and is exploring the startup market by organizing the Cyber Startup Challenge 2020.

The aim of this challenge is to discover the technological landscape of startups around the theme of cyber threat intelligence, and to bring innovative technologies to the Swiss army.

Companies are encouraged to apply, and the best candidate will be selected internally to implement the solution.

For this challenge, three finalist startups will present their companies at the " Cyber threat - Technology Intelligence " conference on November 3, 2020 in Lausanne.

A committee will select one company as a finalist in the Startup Challenge. Finally, the selected startup will be awarded a contract worth up to CHF 100,000 to integrate a proof-of-concept of its technology into the Swiss army.

This challenge is not a call for tenders; it serves to explore the market for promising technologies best suited to the requirements of the Swiss army.

What we're looking for

New intelligence solutions for cyber threats that can have a significant impact on the day-to-day operations of the Swiss army. The solution will be integrated into the existing infrastructure. The technology does not have to be fully mature, but a convincing proof of concept should be able to be implemented within a year and for less than CHF 100,000.

Below are a few examples of cyber threat intelligence technologies of interest; however, the Cyberdefense Campus is also looking to discover related technology areas.

Examples of technologies:

  • Faster threat analysis: discover how a threat behaves
  • Compare binary elements and find similarities
  • Aggregation of feeds to identify emerging issues (feeds from different suppliers, scanned together and identifying the same threat with different names)
  • Semantic analysis of documents
  • Summarizing text and identifying topics in a hacker forum
  • Facilitate comprehension of texts in another language, including jargon.
  • Analyze network traffic or metadata to identify patterns that correspond to an actor
  • Correlation of events and electronic signatures
  • Share information about cyber threats with different partners ("Need to know" vs. "Need to share")

What we're not looking for

Solutions that will require significant changes to the infrastructure, or that could present risks. The Cyberdefense Campus is not interested in concepts or studies, or solutions that are at a very early stage of development. Nor is it interested in consultancy proposals or non-technical solutions.
