by Alp ICT

The TRAIL Institute, in collaboration with the University of Lausanne and the European university alliance CIVIS, is launching a call for projects as part of the 7th TRAIL Research Camp (TReC 2026), dedicated to artificial intelligence. This international event will take place from August 24 to September 4, 2026, in Lausanne, bringing together researchers, students, and industry partners for intensive collaborative projects. Submitted projects must demonstrate potential for practical implementation and address themes such as trustworthy AI, human-AI interaction, and the social and ethical impacts of AI.

An AI innovation lab with a dual focus: scientific and societal

TReC 2026 positions itself as a true innovation hub, fostering co-creation among international experts in artificial intelligence through a two-week immersive program. The call for proposals encourages initiatives capable of combining scientific excellence with practical implementation, with a particular emphasis on multidisciplinary approaches that bridge the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering) and SSH (humanities and social sciences).

In terms of application areas, projects may focus on healthcare, Industry 4.0, mobility, the environment, media, or public policy. From a scientific perspective, key research areas include trustworthy AI, human-machine interaction, energy-efficient embedded AI, data privacy, multi-agent systems, generative AI, and natural language processing.

For SMEs in French-speaking Switzerland, this type of call for proposals represents a particularly attractive opportunity. By partnering with TReC projects, they can access a cutting-edge AI research ecosystem, test concrete use cases, leverage their data or industrial challenges, and identify new avenues for innovation. This short but intensive format also allows for the rapid prototyping of AI solutions, while benefiting from strong international visibility and high-level academic collaborations.
