6 minutes with Delphine Seitiée on Radio Lac: new digital challenges
Our General Secretary Delphine Seitiée was a guest on Radio Lac this morning to talk about the Métavers space, privacy and data protection issues in Switzerland, and the future of our professions. Listen and watch here.
Facebook wants to launch Metaverse, a virtual space where each individual, in the form of an avatar, can find themselves in this world. The interest in Facebook is strategic, as it is aging and deserted by new generations. Mark Zuckerberg's ambition is to create a new social space that is completely immersive, where people can buy and sell a variety of products. A new world where there are few safeguards. It's really a new economic and power space that's unoccupied.
Facebook isn't the only one interested in Metavers. The world of video games is also taking an interest, and has already created its own Metaverse: Epic Games turned its Fortnite game into a Metaverse, and organized a Travis Scott concert with 12 million spectators. The pandemic effect has boosted the number of users on these platforms.
Delphine emphasizes theimportance of prevention and data protection: Europe has a different approach to that of the United States, and is trying to anticipate all the problems linked to this data and to preserve our freedom of expression. We'd like to keep our sensitive data in Switzerland, but do we have the capacity and infrastructure to do so?
Delphine was Béatrice Rul's guest on Radio Lac Matin at 7:35 a.m., to shed some light on the issues at stake in these new digital challenges.
