110 Industries, the video game industry's disrupter

by Alp ICT

Founded in London by two entrepreneurs, 110 Industries has moved to the canton of Vaud to pursue its growth. Its aim: to revolutionize the video game industry by focusing on the development of new intellectual properties.

"Disrupt the video game industry". That's how Anton Poletaev and Sergei Kolobashkin describe the business model of their company, 110 Industries. "There hasn't been a new player of our stature on the market since the early 2000s. Most of the industry's protagonists emerged in the 1970s and 1980s," explains Sergei Kolobashkin, co-founder and creative director. "Our approach is to draw on expertise from different economic fields and focus on creating bold new graphic worlds developed in-house, protected by intellectual property. These are specifically created for today's audience and declined in a wide variety of media: video games, films, streaming shows and comics."

The idea of disrupting the world of video games came to Sergei Kolobashkin when, in 2014, he met Bernie Stolar, an American considered an industry guru with executive roles at industry giants including Atari, Sony and SEGA. It was thanks to him that Sergei Kolobashkin, faced with repeated rejections from major groups, decided to launch his idea independently.

"We were looking for a politically neutral country with an attractive investment climate. The canton of Vaud was an ideal choice.

At its inception, the London-based company's starting capital was around CHF 3.7 million. In 2021, after the latest round of financing, the total amount of funds raised by the company reached over CHF 40 million. A new round is expected to bring in a further CHF 50 million by the end of 2022. "Today, we employ around 30 people worldwide and more than 180 external collaborators," says Anton Poletaev, co-founder and investment director of the company.
