Science, feminine plural

February 29, 2024 - February 29, 2024
Forum Rolex / Campus EPFL - Lausanne
The event is over

Although female student representation at EPFL has increased over the last ten years - now reaching 30% - many challenges remain in terms of access for girls and women to scientific studies and careers.

The aim of this conference is therefore to take stock of the situation and explore the main obstacles, benefits and practical solutions for changing this paradigm.

How can we promote diversity in science and technology and attract more women?

A panel discussion will bring together female alumni, students and professors from EPFL to discuss topics such as the importance of inspiring and shaping imagination from childhood, breaking down gender stereotypes and capitalizing on sisterhood.

Various EPFL initiatives will also be presented to illustrate the existing possibilities for attracting more women to scientific studies from an early age, with a particular focus on one of them, the Coding Club for Girls, a flagship EPFL initiative launched in 2018 for girls aged 11 to 16 to address these issues.

At the end of the conference, the entire audience is invited to discuss and network over an aperitif and to browse the many stands of the associations and organizations present (note the presence of representatives of the " Gender Equality and Digital Transformation " project run by the UNIL Equality Office and in partnership with the EPFL Equality Office, the HES-SO, the HEG-FR and the StrukturELLE association) to promote equality in technical and engineering training and careers.
