A look at the preservation of video games as part of World Audiovisual Heritage Day.

In 2025, we can still read tablets written 3,000 years ago, but not play video games released 10 years ago. Today, video games are part of our daily lives. What will be left of it a century from now? The Stop Killing Games initiative put the question to the European public, and the answer is clear: we want to preserve video games for future generations. But will we be able to?

During this meeting, you'll be able to discover a sample of the technical, legal, logistical and philosophical problems that arise in this quest, and the infinity of possible solutions.

The SVGA (Swiss Video Game Archivists) association was set up as a result of the Pixelvetica project run by Memoriav (the competence center and network dedicated to Switzerland's audiovisual heritage), and brings together video game, history and preservation professionals with the aim of supporting and promoting video game preservation efforts in Switzerland. Its latest project presents a concrete case of the preservation of a video game, CoronaQuest, in the Swiss context.
