From female characters fighting in stilettos to the insults that fly as soon as a woman opens her microphone in an online game: sexism is still omnipresent in the world of video games. The "Coping with sexism in video games" event will address this facet of the gaming universe and share ideas and actions to change this state of affairs.
The event will feature 2 discussion areas, a conference and a round table, as well as a gaming area!
Could video game characters, whether stereotyped or not, be a formidable tool for combating sexism and building a more respectful world? Fanny Lignon, Senior Lecturer at Lyon 1 University, will open the afternoon's proceedings with a talk on the subject, examining the imaginary world of video games through a historical analysis of feminine and masculine representations, and their impact on both male and female players.
A conference, followed by a round-table discussion with speakers from research, the video game industry and the gaming community, will provide an opportunity to reflect on the actions needed to get rid of gender stereotypes and violence in order to create more inclusive and respectful video games.
Change The Rules! Video games and gender equality
During this event, the gender/numérique project is joining forces with the Femigeeks association to offer a selection of video games with inclusive designs and gameplays. Whether you're a gaming fan or a novice, come and enjoy a moment of gaming and chat with their teams about gender issues in video games!
The event, which starts at 10am and ends at 8pm, will take place during the Digital Dreams Festival, which runs from September 6 to 9, 2024 on the campus of the University of Lausanne.
