Fact Finding Mission: (re)discover China
Organized by the SCC(Swiss Centers China), join a Swiss delegation from November 5 to 12, 2023 for a mission of information & (re)discovery of Switzerland's 3rd largest trading partner since 2010: China. The mission will take in 3 of China's economic and innovation hotspots: Shanghai, Hangzhou and Shenzhen. Program & information in this article.
Fact Finding Mission: (re)discover China
A key market for many Swiss companies active in chemicals, pharmaceuticals, precision instruments, watchmaking, robotics and electronics, China remains paradoxically little-known.
While its borders have remained virtually closed for the past 3 years, this fact-finding mission aims to give you an overview of its current business ecosystem and how the country has evolved. Even more concretely, you'll discover the opportunities and challenges facing the 1,000 Swiss companies currently established in China.
From World Factory to Global Innovator?
Another essential aspect of the trip was to discover China's innovative potential, which is still relatively unknown. China is no longer just "the world's factory"; since 2019, it has been the country filing the largest number of patents according to the Global Innovation Index published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). In 2021, of the 3.4 million patents filed, 46.6% were filed by China. The same applies to companies: of the 10 companies registering the highest number of patents, 3 are Chinese, including Huawei Technologies in number 1 position. Many multinationals, including Swiss ones, have made no mistake in setting up their research and development centers here: Nestlé, Roche, Novartis, Schindler and ABB, to name but a few.

A mission organized with the support of the Consulate General of Switzerland in Guangzhou, the Neuchâtel Economic Department (NECO), the Fondation de l'économie de confiance, Microcity, Alp ICT, UIG (Union Industrielle Genevoise), P&TS, China Integrated, Switzerland Global Enterprise and the Association Suisse-Chine - Région Romande.
